Requesting Authorization for a Refill
When a prescription does not have any remaining refills, it must be reauthorized before it is refilled. You can request authorization for a refill by sending an Authorization Request in PharmaClik Rx. The Authorization Request form contains patient, doctor and pharmacy information, as well as details of the prescription, and includes Prescriber Certification.
When you open a prescription in Rx Detail to reauthorize it, you will notice immediate changes to the prescription:
- The authorization number (Auth field) is replaced with the number 0, indicating that the prescription does not have repeats.
- The Quantity Dispensed (QD field) has been reset to zero (0).
- An alert message warns you that the prescription is not authorized to be dispensed.
Note: Pre-authorized prescriptions have an Auth of PRE and unauthorized prescriptions have an Auth of NOT.
To send an Authorization Request for a prescription with no remaining refills:
- From the Workbench, select the Refill button.
- In the Rx(s) field, type the prescription number(s) (separate multiple prescriptions by a forward slash e.g. 500008/500004/500009).
- Select the Process button. The prescription(s) open in Rx Detail.
- Select Rx > Auth Request. The Authorization Request Form opens. The doctor, patient, and previous prescription information are populated automatically.
- To specify additional information, click the form and type the information.
- Do one of the following:
- To print the form, select the Print button.
- To fax the form, select the Fax button. The Fax Handling System (FHS) must be running.
- Once you have printed/faxed the authorization request, select the Escape button to exist from filling this prescription.
Note: If the Print Privacy Disclaimer checkbox located at the bottom of the Authorization Request Form window is selected, the privacy disclaimer prints at the bottom of printed and faxed authorization request forms and does not print when the checkbox is deselected.
